9 Tips for Using and Maintaining Your Ride On Scrubber

The basic tips and checks below will help you get the most out of your ride on scrubber:

1.  To start with ensure you have the correct brushes or pads fitted. Certain pads/brushes are better on certain floors, so check with the supplier that you have the best option fitted for the task at hand. You may be taking 3 or 4 passes to clean high traffic areas when a stiffer brush or more aggressive pad could help get the job done in 1 or 2 passes, saving time and money.

2. Depending on the type of floor you are cleaning and the dirt involved, you may need a suitable cleaning chemical to run through your scrubber dryer. To avoid damaging the vac motor and blocking tubes, you will need a liquid based chemical that is low foaming.

3.  Slow down! The slower you go with a ride on scrubber, the longer the scrub brushes, water and detergent are in contact with the floor, resulting in a better cleaning performance.

4.   For really heavy staining, try using the double scrub technique. This is where you use the machine to put plenty of water and chemical down, leave it to soak (if safe to do so) and then run the machine with just the scrub brushes on multiple times over the same area. Once this has been done you lower the squeegee, turn on the vacuum and remove all the dirty water from the floor. This works really well on very heavily soiled floors such as engineering works.

5.   After you have used the ride on scrubber make sure the brush and vacuum motors are switched off (easy to miss in a loud environment such as a manufacturing facility)

6.   Make sure the operator has time to empty and clean out the recovery tank otherwise the residue in the tank can harden at the bottom of the tank causing blockages, downtime and an unpleasant smell.

7.   It is important to keep the squeegee blades at the back of the machine clean and in good condition as these are doing the important job of removing the dirty water from the floor, leaving the floor clean and safe for people to walk on or vehicles to drive over. Regularly wipe and clean them down, check for any tears or rips and replace if necessary

8.  Batteries are one of the most expensive parts in a scrubber dryer so if your machine has ‘wet cell batteries’ and ‘not maintenance free’ safely check the water levels and top up if necessary.

9.  On a weekly places the pads or brushes should be removed and cleaned which will prolong their life and reduce running costs.
